Amidst rising acts of national injustice and violence throughout the past year, Harmony Project is devoted to helping children in LA create better lives for themselves, their families and their communities through education and the arts. Harmony Project's mission is to promote the healthy growth of children through the study, practice, and performance of music. Arts engagement is essential to building confidence and identity, characteristics necessary for kids overcoming adversity. By developing and engaging children as musical ambassadors, they learn they have the power to create and actively shape their world.
Harmony Project serves 13 communities across Los Angeles, engaging with an average of 2000 students from various neighborhoods. Each student receives an instrument to take home, as well as weekly lessons taught by a professional teaching artist. Every student, regardless of age, instrument or skill level, plays in a group orchestra which holds concerts and performs at community events throughout the year. Eligible graduates may even receive college scholarships. Harmony Project students have been accepted to top universities around the world and have been recognized for their achievements.
